about the project
Built in 1724 and later known as Whittemore’s Tavern, this historic home over time evolved from its original single-family residence into a two-family dwelling, gradually losing the clarity of its original form. This renovation was a true labor of love. The goal was to thoughtfully restore the home to a single-family residence while bringing it confidently into the next century. Every decision balanced preservation with progress — respecting the character, proportions, and craftsmanship of the 18th century while integrating modern systems, comfort, and functionality.
The result is a home that honors its roots without being defined by them — a renewed historic residence designed to live beautifully in the present.
